100+ Women ventured out on (another) cold and snowy night in early April for our 13th meeting, including a few of you we haven’t seen in a while. We had to put out more chairs at the last minute – that’s what we call a happiness problem! The energy in the room is great and there is such a feeling of community and camaraderie when we get together.

With 10 nominations in the hat, the three drawn were:

Big Brothers Big Sisters – Janessa McCormack
The Emergency Bursary Fund – RDC – Bre Fitzpatrick
Central Alberta Women’s Emergency Shelter – Stacy Thygesen

Well done ladies! Thank you for your heartfelt and informative pitches. When the ballots were counted, The Central Alberta Women’s Emergency Shelter received the most votes. Our donations will give a boost to the extraordinary work CAWES does in our community.

If you weren’t able to join us last night, please drop off your cheque to 4751-56 Street, made payable to CAWES.

Thank you to Shannon Humphrey and Audrey Michayluk from Habitat for Humanity for updating us on their good work and how our previous donations are being used to help families in our community gain the benefits of home ownership.

The new t-shirts were a hit! We still have a few available in medium and large. Please let us know if you’d like one – $25 each. We apologize if you weren’t able to purchase the size you wanted last night. We took a stab at ordering what we thought would work for sizing, but we were a little off the mark. Our minimum order is 75, but we can start a pre-order list and try to get to the minimum.

Other highlights of the evening:

More than 10 new members at the meeting, plus few that couldn’t be there last night. Woo Hoo!
A gorgeous hand-crafted necklace and bracelets from our own Edie Pruss of Lotus Lights Originals was our first door prize.

A custom-made “100+ Women Who Care” crib board from Laser’s Edge Design was our second.
The winners of two lively rounds of Heads and Tails run by Van Jensen received entries to the Red Deer PCN Fun Run (next time pick smarter assistants, Val).
Many, many community announcements prove what a busy city we live in and all the worthwhile fundraising efforts taking place.

Thank you to our Welcoming Committee – Rachel, Elvy, Colleen, Rachel and Amber – for the table talk cards that encouraged lively conversation and warmed up the evening. Thank you to Peggy, Jay, Virginia, and Mary for their help once again at the registration table, counting ballots and helping us stay organized.

The next meeting is MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 24. Have a great summer – it has to arrive eventually!

Choose Joy,

Cindy and Susan
